Jean Lyford was an educator, writer, and gardener who wove these passions throughout her life. A longtime Orinda resident, she taught 7th grade science at Pine Grove and Orinda Intermediate Schools, later serving as principal of Orinda Intermediate School. She was a Trustee of the Orinda Union School District, the first female President of the Orinda Rotary Club, and an active participant in the Hummingwords Writing Workshop. Her love of nature and dedication to gardening were reflected throughout her poetry.
