The end of the line: The last through eastbound passenger train on the San Diego & Arizona Eastern Railway prepares for its 7:05 am depature from San Diego behind Southern Pacific #2373 on a drizzly January 11, 1951. Even the skies wept! This poignant photo captures the timeless, everyday ritual of 31 years and 41 days of the SD&A/SD&AE passenger service between San Diego an Imperial Counties and points east. The last westbound train was pulled by Southern Pacific #2383 and included SD&A combine #175. It arrived in San Diego at 11:30 pm.
