Woman's Button up Shoe

Name/Title

Woman's Button up Shoe

Description

This old shoe wasn’t cleaned on the old step part of the cow is still on it. This shoe was found under the stairs of a 2-story house located on the west side of the West Krankaway River close to the old bridge. My friend and I tore it down. The old house was made of Hart Pine over an inch thick and 18 to 20 inches wide. All the boards ran from the bottom floor to the very top. All lumber was numbered, put together with square nails and foundation was pegged. It had been moved from Indianola just before the Big Storm that wiped out Indianola. It had been torn down and moved by barge up the river. We tore it down in 1980. I saved a pine peg and some square nails along with this shoe. Looks like she got her money’s worth out of this shoe. If I had looked closer under these old stairs case, there is no way of telling when this old house was built at Indianola. -Jack
