Bertha Honore Palmer

Book by: Timothy A. King: Mrs. Palmer was the undeniable queen of Chicago society in the late-nineteenth century and into the twentieth, but her renown reached well beyond this city. This was a woman who entertained three American presidents at her home. She was the only woman in the United States’ official envoy at the Paris Exposition of 1900. She was related to European royalty, she golfed with King Edward, she dominated Paris and London’s elite social circles. An American leading London society…she was in no uncertain terms a celebrity.

Name/Title

Bertha Honore Palmer

Description

The opulent gowns, created for her by the appropriately named Worth of Paris, were made with the finest of brocades, silk satins, and hand-embroidered velvets, fitted to her tiny waist, and encrusted with rhinestones, pearls and glass beads. The exquisite collection of Tiffany jewels from her late beloved husband, the long strands of pearls, the diamond chokers, the tiaras and ruby rings and rare cameo brooches, all traveled with her back and forth across the English Channel.
