Ivory Holder, CigaretteDescription
from China. Given by Mr & Mrs. Weilbye
Carved ivory cigarette holder with relief carving of Chinese dragon. Holder tapers from nearly 2 cm in diameter at cigarette end to an oval shape in cross section at mouthpiece 5x9 mm wide. The mouthpiece is 2-1/2 cm long with a widened end and polished smooth. The refiled carving encircles the piece for 4 cm of its length leaving 1 cm polished smooth at cigarette end. The carving of the dragon is 2 or 3 cm deep in places and in several places there are very delicate "bridges" of ivory less than 1 mm in diameter. The Chinese dragon completely encircles the piece his tail and head appearing on the same side of the piece. Wreaths of smoke that resemble flowers surround dragon and border the dragon.
