Kookaburra Scatter PinDescription
Handsome, silver bezel-set carving in low relief of kookaburra sitting on branch, carved out of disk of emu(?) eggshell. The eggshell is a creamy white with greenish-gray color on the top layer that has been cut through with great skill by the carver producing a multi-toned effect. Gradual shading in color from gray to white is achieved by sanding through the gray pigmented layer. Sharper distinctions in color are the result of scratch carving, or gouging the material. The kookaburra is an Australian kingfisher, large head, strong back, striped tail. Stamped silver on back.
