Provenance

Notes

The first replica of the corner chair in which Patrick Henry died on June 6, 1799, in his home at Red Hill. Made in the woodshop at the Patrick Henry Boys Plantation. The original chair in which Henry died was sold by his great-granddaughter, Lucy Gray Henry Harrison (1857–1944) through auctioneer Stan V. Henkels in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in December 1910. It was sold to American industrialist John Gribbel (1858–1936) for $225, and is currently owned by the Colonial Williamsburg Foundation. The Patrick Henry Memorial Foundation purchased this chair from the Patrick Henry Boys Plantation in June 1978.
