Notes
Author George Morgan (1854–1936) was born in Concord, Delaware, and died in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, at the age of 82. He wrote several books during his lifetime on prominent historical figures, such as James Monroe and the Marquis de Lafayette, as well as works on the Civil War and the history of Pennsylvania. In addition to being an author, Morgan worked as a journalist and newspaper editor for over 50 years.
“The True Patrick Henry” is a biography that follows the life of Patrick Henry, from his early years to his death, detailing the prominent moments in his career as a lawyer, politician, and orator. The book's first edition was published in 1907 by J. B. Lippincott Company, followed by this second edition, which was published in 1929 by the same. An article posted in "The Meriden Daily Journal" in August 1907 states that Morgan sorted through “unused originals” of William Wirt (1772–1834) and pulled out historical facts that “have never been put before the public.”
On December 4, 1929, John Henry Miller (1854–1935), a great-grandson of Patrick Henry, signed and dated the front flyleaf of this book. It, along with several other Henry family items, was donated by Jane Gammon Shore (1942–living) on October 23, 2024. Jane Shore is the grand-niece of John Henry Miller and the third great-granddaughter of Patrick Henry through the line of his son, John Henry (1796–1868).
