Notes

This candlestick holder is one of a pair and belonged to Lucy Gray Marshall Henry (1832–1922), wife of William Wirt Henry (1831–1900). William Wirt Henry was a grandson to Patrick Henry, descended from Patrick's youngest son John (1796–1868). He married Lucy Marshall in 1854. These candlesticks passed from Lucy Marshall Henry to her son James Marshall Henry I (1867–1909), then to his son James Marshall Henry II (1905–1970). According to a letter written by James Marshall Henry II to his son, James Marshall Henry III (1943–living) on August 16, 1969, "The silver candlesticks belonged to your great-grandmother Mrs. William Wirt Henry...." James Marshall Henry III donated these candlesticks to the Patrick Henry Memorial Foundation on May 8, 2021.
