Provenance

Notes

On May 8, 1930, a bust of Patrick Henry was unveiled for inclusion in the Hall of Fame for Great Americans at New York University. This pamphlet details the ceremony's order of events and provides brief descriptions of all nine busts being installed. American sculptor Charles Keck (1875–1951) completed the bust of Patrick Henry. Keck had previously accomplished significant monuments, including "Lifting the Veil of Ignorance," a statue of Booker T. Washington, at Tuskegee University in 1927. Several photographs of Henry's bust by Keck are in the Red Hill collection (76.181-183). Note that the copy of a 1764 receipt is included with Henry's bust image; however, the receipt was, in fact, written and signed by Henry's uncle, Reverend Patrick Henry (1707–1777), who signed his name, "Pat Henry." The pamphlet was donated to the Patrick Henry Memorial Foundation by Martha Luchsinger (1976–living) in memory of her grandmother, Dorothy Spotswood Quarles Nichols (1913–2020), on April 28, 2025.
