Notes

Cornelia (Corrie) Dandridge Sampson, a great-great-granddaughter of Patrick Henry, was born on April 1, 1874, in Dallas, Texas. Her parents, Henry Sampson (1847-1903) and Sarah Spotswood Fontaine (1848-1935), moved the family a year later and at age six, Corrie lived in Williamsburg, North Carolina. Due to its similarities to another photograph of her from the same studio (2023.30.11), this photograph was likely taken in 1891 when she was around age seventeen. She married Malcolm Montross Graham, Sr. (1865-?), on April 4, 1894, and they had two children: Malcolm Montross Graham, Jr. and Sarah Aylett Graham. She died at age 29 on September 13, 1904, at St. Mary's Infirmary in Galveston, Texas. This photograph was given to PHMF on May 3, 2023, by Monique and Philip Heller. They inherited this object and the others in this accession from her stepmother, Catherine Spotswood Fontaine Lawrence (1938-2015), a third-great-granddaughter of Patrick Henry. Corrie Dandridge Sampson Graham was her first cousin once-removed.
