2023.44.9Description
Color photograph, square. Image of the west wall of the Henry Family Cemetery. The side of a square-shaped stone wall with a small, barred iron gate can be seen. In front is a white lamppost and a path leading up to the gate. Behind the wall are several large hedges which line the side. A large tree sits in front of the far corner of the wall, towards the left of the photo. Many large and bare trees make up the majority of the background behind the walls.
A clear blue sky can be seen in the background. The foreground is largely disturbed earth, comprised of dirt and small rocks with some grass on the other side of the path. A small patch of grass can be seen to the left, and a small tan box can be seen on the right.Provenance
Notes
This photograph is one of a set of images depicting the Red Hill property during its principal restoration by the Patrick Henry Memorial Foundation in 1961.
The stone wall surrounding the Henry Family cemetery was later demolished due to historical inaccuracy.
This photograph was found in the James S. Easley Papers. Mr. Easley helped to establish the Patrick Henry Memorial Foundation and served as its first president from 1944 to his death in 1965.
