The PHMF Golden Anniversary Celebration was held on Thursday, October 27, 1994 to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Foundation's establishment. The PHMF was incorporated on October 27, 1944. The event was held at the Jefferson Hotel in Richmond, Virginia. Michael Jesse Bennett (1929–2019) was a professional actor from Utah who also interpreted Patrick Henry for 30 years, which would earn him the George Washington Award from the Freedom Foundation at Valley Forge in 1996. Ronald Reagan served as President of the United States from 1981 to 1989. It was under Reagan's presidency, in 1986, that Red Hill was designated the National Memorial to Patrick Henry through an act of Congress. Reagan was not in attendance at the dinner, but in the message he sent, he congratulated the PHMF on its 50th anniversary. He also congratulated Governor Mills E. Godwin, Jr. (1914–1999), who served as Governor of Virginia for two non-consecutive terms, from 1966 to 1970 and from 1974 to 1978, for being awarded the Patrick Henry Award that night. Staff found this photograph in the existing files of Red Hill's collection and accessioned it on May 30, 2024, due to its importance to PHMF's institutional history.
