Provenance

Notes

This land grant was issued to Patrick Henry. Because Henry was governor in 1786, his lieutenant governor, Beverley Randolph, signed and issued the land grant to Henry on April 4 of that year. Beverley Randolph (1754–1797) served as lieutenant governor under Patrick Henry. He was born in 1754 and was educated at the College of William and Mary. He served in the militia during the American Revolution, was a member of the Virginia Assembly, and was a member of the Virginia House of Delegates from 1777 to 1780. Randolph was elected governor of Virginia in 1788, the first to be elected after Virginia ratified the US Constitution, and served until 1791. He died on his farm near Green Creek in Cumberland County, Virginia, on February 7, 1797. PHMF purchased this grant from University Auctions on August 8, 2022.
