Notes
This land grant was written and signed secretarily by Patrick Henry, who at the time was serving in his fifth and last term as Governor of Virginia. A document signed secretarily means it was not actually signed by the person whose signature the document bears. An assistant, or secretary, was authorized to write and sign the document in Henry's stead and with his approval.
The grant gives 51,500 acres of land in Nelson County to George May. As was common with many deeds and land grants of this time, natural landmarks such as trees, rivers, and rocks were used to delineate plots of land.
In July 2022, Cody Youngblood purchased the land grant from History For Sale. Youngblood then donated the grant to PHMF on July 4, 2022.
