Notes

This membership application for the Virginia Society Colonial Dames of America was created and submitted by Virginia Creighton Borum Hickerson (1891–1950), a 3rd and 4th great-granddaughter of Patrick Henry, in 1916. Dr. Hickerson is descended from Henry through both his daughters, Elizabeth Aylett (1769–1842) and Martha Fontaine (1755–1818). According to her obituary, Dr. Hickerson was "pediatrics coordinator for Hamilton County, Ohio, in charge of control of tuberculosis in children. Previously, she had been in charge of the X-ray Department of the State Sanitarium at Sanitarium, Miss., for eight years. She was a member of the Cincinnati Academy of Medicine, Ohio Medical Association and American Medical Association." Dr. Hickerson's husband, Dr. William D. Hickerson (1896–1963), was superintendent of Dunham Hospital in Cincinnati, Ohio, from 1942 to 1946. The Hickersons are the grandparents of the donor, Patrick Henry Jolly (1961–). Mr. Jolly donated this membership application to the Patrick Henry Memorial Foundation on January 20, 2023.
