Notes

The Patrick Henry Memorial Foundation Golden Anniversary Celebration took place at the Jefferson Hotel in Richmond, Virginia on Thursday, October 27, 1994. The event celebrated the 50th anniversary of the foundation's establishment. The PHMF was incorporated on October 27, 1944, and this program states the Foundation's following purposes: "To establish a perpetual memorial in the commemoration of the life and character of Patrick Henry and to that end erect and maintain shrines, monuments, and other similar markings at places connected with the life of Patrick Henry, and in general to collect and distribute historical facts and literature and mementos...; and in particular to purchase, preserve and maintain the property located in Charlotte and Campbell Counties, Virginia, known as "Red Hill," being the burial place and last home of Patrick Henry..., to the end that the said property may be forever set apart as a National Shrine, dedicated to the aims, ideals, and purposes for which Patrick Henry lived and labored--that the liberty which Patrick Henry envisioned and proclaimed with matchless eloquence may be preserved in the hearts of men everywhere and that this memorial may be an inspiration to encourage and refresh those who strive for its ultimate attainment." Theodore W. Graves, who served as president of the PHMF from 1977 to 1991, gave the invocation. The then-president of the PHMF, Carolyn M. Lusardi, gave the "Recognition of Distinguished Guests" and shared "Remembrances of Fifty Years." Michael Owen Wells delivered a speech as Patrick Henry titled "Governor Patrick Henry Speaks." The Governor of the Commonwealth of Virginia, George Allen, was in attendance. Allen served as governor of Virginia from 1994 to 1998. This item was kept in Red Hill's collection after the Golden Anniversary and cataloged on May 30, 2024, for its historical significance to the history of the PHMF.
