Provenance

Notes

This note accompanied a lock of hair from Patrick Henry's widow, Dorothea Dandridge Henry (1757-1831), who married Judge Edmund Winston after Henry's death. She explains in this note that she cut off this hair with her own hand near to her death to preserve it for her children. The handwriting on this note is the same as that of Dorothea Dandridge Henry Winston's will. At a later date it came into the possession of Margaret Henry Dabney Penick (1853-1923), a great-great-granddaughter of Patrick Henry. Mrs. Dabney donated the hair with its accompanying note to the Patrick Henry Memorial Foundation April 4th, 1952.
