Provenance

Notes

This mortar and pestle set belonged to the Henry family at Red Hill. They came into the possession of Lucy Henry Harrison (1857-1944), Patrick Henry's great granddaughter, through her father, William Wirt Henry (1831-1900), and grandfather, John Henry (1796-1868). After her death, her possessions were auctioned off on June 30, 1945, including this mortar and pestle set. The Patrick Henry Memorial Foundation purchased the set from Mrs. Harrison's executrix, Elizabeth Kerper, at that auction.
