This snuffbox is said to have been presented to Patrick Henry by Chief Justice John Marshall (1755–1835). The box was made in the last quarter of the 18th century. The box was purchased by the Patrick Henry Memorial Foundation from the estate of Lucy Gray Henry Harrison (1857–1944), a great-granddaughter to Patrick Henry, on June 30, 1945.
