Notes

Henry writes this letter to an unknown person who presumably lived in the back country west of Chesterfield County and Salisbury. Henry introduces his young relative, John Walker, who wished to explore the back country. He asks the receiver to help him with any inside information on Tennessee or other areas of the back country. Henry also asks if the unknown individual received the "Indian presents" sent by Henry's man, Parker. Betty Casey purchased this letter from Bruce Gimelson, a rare document dealer. On March 4, 2004 Mrs. Casey donated this letter to the Patrick Henry Memorial Foundation.
