A cherry candlestand, eighteenth century. The top of the table is a rounded off square with cut corners. A long crack runs lengthwise across the top of the table. The edges of the table show some wear from age. The table rests on a turned urn central pedestal supported by three tall arched feet. The top is secured to the pedestal with wooden pegs. The base of the table has a saw tooth edge cut out around the bottom.Made/Created

This is an excellent example of an 18th-century candlestand. It was almost certainly made in Eastern Virginia in the mid-to-late 18th century, possibly locally in Albemarle County.
Sandra Wright Crowther donated the candlestand to the Patrick Henry Memorial Foundation in January 2007.
