Notes

This petition to the court of Franklin County was filed by Patrick Henry on behalf of his client, John Campbell, seeking the right to inherit the property of James Fowler. Fowler had left the colony before he died. Given to the Patrick Henry Memorial Foundation by Patrick Henry Fontaine (1869–1959), a great-grandson of Patrick Henry, in 1950. Fontaine is descended from Henry and Sarah Shelton's oldest daughter, Martha Henry Fontaine (1755–1818), whose son is Col. Patrick Henry Fontaine (1775–1852), whose son is Edward Fontaine (1814–1884), whose son is the donor, Patrick Henry Fontaine.
