Description

Copy of the "Flaming Kate" that the USS Yorktown (CV-10) shot down on December 4th, 1943. The Japanese plane is seen engulfed in flames as it crashes into the ocean without delivering its payload. The photograph is signed by Joseph "Jocko" Clark for Lieutenant J.R. Kristufek. The famous "Flaming Kate" picture was handed out to the crew of the USS Yorktown during World War II.

Context

Kristufek was a plank owner on the USS Yorktown (CV-10) and flew missions off the Yorktown as an Avenger pilot in Torpedo Squadron Five (VT-5) during World War II.
