Description

Bronze medal depicts Lady Liberation standing full length with head turned looking to the dawn of a new day, right foot resting on a war god's helmet with the hilt of a broken sword in the right hand and the broken blade in the left hand and reads 'World War II.' The reverse depicts a central palm branch and reads ' United States of America 1941 1945' and 'Freedom from fear and want' and 'Freedom of speech and religion.' The ribbon is red with vertical rainbow striping on either border. The medal came in the original blue box with blue velvet lining.

Use

The WWII Victory Medal was awarded for service between December 7, 1941, and December 31, 1946, both dates inclusive, with no minimum time in service requirement.

Context

Earned by Charles "Chuck" Bonness for his naval service. Charles Bonness was a seaman 2/c class aboard the USS Yorktown (CV-5) and a rear-gunner aboard an SBD Dauntless in Scouting Squadron Five (VS-5). Bonness was reported missing in action after the Battle of the Coral Sea on May 8, 1942.
