Context

The Curtiss SB2C Helldiver would enter service in 1942 as a replacement for the SBD Dauntless. While the transition between the two planes would take time, by 1944 the Helldiver would be the go-to dive bomber for the US Navy. The Helldiver would serve as the primary dive-bomber for the United States for the remainder of World War II.
