A yellow, World War II inflatable Type B-4 life preserver with 'Joe Kristufek' stenciled across the front in black block lettering. The vest's inflatable chest piece is secured to the pilot with two straps: one that belts around the waist and one that attaches to the waist by going under the crotch.

These inflatable life preservers were issued to pilots in the US Navy as survival equipment in the event of a water landing.

Context

Worn by Joseph Kristufek who was a plank owner on the USS Yorktown (CV-10) and flew missions off the Yorktown as an Avenger pilot in Torpedo Squadron (VT-5) during World War II.
