US Navy Summer Flight Suit

Name/Title

US Navy Summer Flight Suit

Description

A World War II US Naval aviator's summer flying suit made out of a khaki cotton-canvas material. The suit is collared with a pull tab zipper running from nape to crotch and a buckled belt around the waist. There are pockets on the left breast and above the cuffs on both pants legs.

Use

Made of a canvas-cotton blend, these aviator flight suits were used to protect the flight crewman but were more comfortable than traditional flight suits in warm weather.

Context

Worn by Lt. Joseph Rudolf Kristufek. Kristufek was a plank owner on the USS Yorktown (CV-10) and flew missions off the Yorktown as an Avenger pilot in Torpedo Squadron (VT-5) during World War II.
