Description

A late World War II-era US Navy and Marine Corps pilot olive drab, Nylon flying suit. The suit is collared with a single, pull-tab zipper from collar to crotch, a pocket on either breast, and a pocket near the cuff of either leg.

Use

Made of nylon, these flight suits were lightweight and used to protect the flight crewman. Nylon was a cheaper and more readily available fabric produced by the DuPont Corporation. The US government was given exclusive military use for Nylon on February 11, 1942 for the duration of the war effort.

Context

Worn by Lt. Joseph Rudolf Kristufek. Kristufek was a plank owner on the USS Yorktown (CV-10) and flew missions off the Yorktown as an Avenger pilot in Torpedo Squadron (VT-5) during World War II.
