Description

One white, United States Navy dixie cup cap, with 'Laws, C.F.' written on the interior in black ink. Also written on the exterior in black ink is a list of battles and locations visited that took place while Laws served on the USS Yorktown (CV-10). This list is written as follows: "USS YORKTOWN Marcus Aug. 31, 1943, Wake Oct. 5-6, 1943 In. Gilberts Nove 19-27, 1943 Marshalls Dec 4-5 1943 In Marshalls Jan 29-Feb 4 1944 Truk Feb 16-17 1944 Marianas (Saipan) Feb 21-22 1944 Salau Mar 30-31 1944 Waleai April 1 1944 Inner Hollandy & Wake April 21-23 1944 New Guinea Truk April 29-30 1944 Makin Tarawa Kauejalene Jap Eniwektok Renjalap."

Dixie caps were issued by the United States Navy as a part of a sailors' uniform.

Context

Charles Laws, who served aboard the USS Yorktown (CV-10) from August 1943 to April 1944, used this standard issue cap as a way to record and preserve the battles he participated in and the places he went while on board the aircraft carrier.
