A photograph of the USS Laffey (DD-724) following the relentless Japanese attack she fended off on April 16, 1945. View of port side aft abreast of mount 53 (5.38"). A landing craft from LST-677 is shown alongside the destroyer.

Context

Donated by Thomas Fern. A Seaman aboard the USS Laffey (DD-724), as well as a plank owner, Fern was wounded during the kamikaze attack on April 16, 1945, and received the silver star.
