Context

The USS Barton (DD-722) was an Allen M. Sumner class destroyer that served alongside the USS Laffey (DD-724) at the shelling of Cherbourg and the invasion of Okinawa. The USS Barton was also the second ship to bear the name Barton, the previous USS Barton (DD-599) being sunk at the first battle of Guadalcanal. In this message, the USS Barton congratulates the USS Laffey and her crew for their courageous performance fighting off waves of kamikaze planes on April 16, 1945.
