This archival piece shows Joseph Kristufek's appointment to the rank of Lieutenant Commander (A-1) following his service as Executive Officer with Torpedo Squadron Eighty-Seven (VT-87). Attached is a photo roster of the members of VT-87.

Context

Torpedo Squadron Eighty-Seven (VT-87) was stationed onboard the USS Ticonderoga (CV-14) from July 1, 1944, to October 29, 1945. Kristufek was a plank owner on the USS Yorktown (CV-10) and flew missions off the Yorktown as an Avenger pilot in Torpedo Squadron Five from 1943 to 1944.
