A padded leather glove used to protect the hands of a boxer.

Context

"After going through fire and smoke...we went topside and to this day I do not know how I ever managed to cross a bomb crater without falling three decks below." --Charles "Ox" Russell A storekeeper (Sk1/c) aboard the USS Franklin (CV-13), Charles Mason "Ox" Russell II was on the USS Franklin (CV-13) during the March 19th, 1945, attack. An avid boxer aboard the ship, Russell and his gloves survived and stayed with the ship through its return to the Brooklyn Navy Shipyard for repairs in April 1945.
