Ensign E.J. Hauser Celebrating the 17,000th Landing Aboard the USS Yorktown (CV-10)

Description

Ensign E.J. Hauser (middle) of Air Group Three, Rear Admiral Arthur Radford (left) and another sailor celebrates the 17,000th landing on the USS Yorktown (CV-10).

Context

Important landing milestones were often celebrated with cake. The plane's crew would be awarded the cake, then the cake would be shared with the crew's squadron. Lieutenant Pierre Grace served with Air Group Three aboard The USS Yorktown (CV-10) during World War II. Air Group Three was attached to the USS Yorktown from October 24, 1944, through March 1945. Grace was the Air Group's historian and would have kept materials related to significant moments in the Group's history, such as this historic landing.
