The portrait shows Jocko in profile and wearing his Rear Admiral uniform and regalia. The drawing also includes a caption with Jocko's nickname and significance and a speech bubble with implied expletives. the drawing is dedicated to Raymond Gard and signed by the artist, John Furlow.

Context

John Furlow, a radarman aboard the USS Yorktown (CV-10) from 1942 to 1945, drew this caricature of Captain "Jocko" Clark for Raymond Gard, a surgeon also serving on the Yorktown at the same time as Furlow and Clark. Furlow, a trained artist and illustrator, drew many caricatures of the Yorktown's beloved first captain while serving on the ship. Furlow is most well-known for his work with Duke University and his design of the Duke Blue Devil.
