The Crusader has markings for the 'Navy,' 'Chance-Vought F-8U Crusader,' the 'USS Coral Sea,' 'VF-154,' and the bureau number '146939.'
The Vought F-8 Crusader is a carrier-based air jet. The Crusader is a single-engine aircraft with supersonic capabilities and was the last US fighter plane constructed with guns as the primary weapon. The F-8K variant has upgraded engines and radar.Context
First introduced in 1957, the F-8 Crusader was created at the US Navy's request for a new fighter plane. The Crusader served throughout the Vietnam War but was largely limited to daytime operations.
