Context

Ulithi Island is located in the Western Pacific Ocean and is a part of the Caroline Islands. The island itself would become a U.S. Naval Base in 1944. The United States Navy would use the island as a base of operations until Leyte was secured. Also called "Mog Mog," it was a popular site for shore leave activities.
