Description

A caricatured Captain James "Jocko" Clark is seen in striped pajamas, scratching his head and down his pants. He is demanding his morning milk from a nervous looking orderly saluting on the right-hand side of the page. As Captain, Jocko Clark was known for drinking milk as a treatment for ulcers.

Context

Captain James "Jocko" Clark served as the first commanding officer aboard the USS Yorktown (CV-10) from April 1943 to February of 1944. Artist John Furlow created a series of caricatures during his time as radarman on the USS Yorktown CV-10. Furlow completed a number of portraits of the Captain. He became a graphic artist after the war and notably designed Duke University's Blue Devil.
