Group Photograph for the 1981 USS Laffey (DD-724) Reunion

Scope and Content

In this photograph many of the USS Laffey's crew, including Captain Julian Becton, can be seen gathered on the ship's bow for a group picture.

Context

In 1981 the Laffey Association held their reunion aboard the USS Laffey. The USS Laffey can be seen moored alongside the USS Yorktown (CV-10) as part of the Patriots Point Naval & Maritime Museum. The items in this collection were donated by Samuel Wingrove, a plank owner and Water Tender aboard the USS Laffey (DD-724) during World War II. Wingrove was present for both D-Day and the Battle of Okinawa. Wingrove would be promoted a Boiler Technician, go on to serve on a variety of Navy ships in the Korean War and retire as a US Navy Chief Petty Officer.
