Description

Print by Arthur Beaumont entitled "USS Constitution and USS United States" inscribed and presented by the artist to Captain James B. Cain in 1965. The work shows the two sailing ships prominently in the foreground with two other ships and a line of cliffs in the background. The inscription reads: 'To Captain "Jim" Cain, with sincere appreciation of his tolerance of a sea-going artist --Arthur Beaumont, 1965.'

Context

Arthur Beaumont presented this inscribed and signed print of the "USS Constitution and USS United States" to Captain James B. Cain while aboard the USS Yorktown (CVS-10) on a visit in 1965. This is one of two inscribed works presented to Captain Cain by the artist. James B. Cain was a World War II Navy Ace who also served as the twenty-first captain of the USS Yorktown (CVS-10) from June 11, 1965 to May 7, 1966.
