A gray plane with navy blue paint surrounding the cockpit, navy paint with red striping on the tail fins, and the National Aircraft Insignia consisting of a five-pointed white star on a circular blue field with red, white and blue vertical stripes on either side. The Tomcat has markings for the 'Navy,' VF-154,' and the bureau number '159025.'
Constructed by Grumman, the F-14A Tomcat is an all-weather intercept fighter constructed for the US Navy. The supersonic capable, the two-seater, twin-engine F-14A premiered in 1970.Context
Entering service with the US Navy in 1974, the Tomcat participated in the evacuation of Saigon at the end of the Vietnam War after launching off the USS Enterprise (CVA(N)-65). The F-14A would remain a staple of the US Navy until replacement by the Boeing Super Hornet in 2006.
The Tomcat arrived at Patriots Point in 1995 and is on loan from the National Naval Aviation Museum in Pensacola, Florida.Collection
