In this letter Samuel Wingrove is given his Laffey (DD-724) plank owner card. The possibility of the USS Laffey being memorialized in Philadelphia is discussed. The letter closes with a mention of association dues and that the 1979 Laffey Reunion would be held in New Orleans.

Context

The items in this collection were donated by Samuel Wingrove, a plank owner and Water Tender aboard the USS Laffey (DD-724) during World War II. Wingrove was present for both D-Day and the Battle of Okinawa. Wingrove would be promoted a Boiler Technician, go on to serve on a variety of Navy ships in the Korean War and retire as a US Navy Chief Petty Officer.
