Use

The small ditty bags were issued by the US Navy to sailors as a way to keep numerous small personal items together.

Context

An Electricians Mate (EM 2/c) on the USS Franklin CV-13 from February 28, 1944, to November 1945, Robert Edward "Bob" St. Peters was aboard for the March 19, 1945 attack and became a member of the 704 Club. St. Peters was retained after the attack to bring the ship in for repair at the Brooklyn Navy Yard.
