Description

A translucent, yellow survival flask with original fishing line kit and prophylactics sleeve inside. The directions of use of the items once present in the kit are on the outside of the flask in white writing.

Use

Emergency kits were issued to World War II air crews in the event they were shot down or crashed. These kits provided materials helpful for survival in uninhabited areas such as water purification chemicals, a compass, and razor blades.

Context

As a F4U Corsair fighter-bomber pilot in the Pacific, Gerald Hennesy flew almost 100 missions off the aircraft carrier USS Yorktown (CV-10). He received the Air Medal for downing an enemy aircraft during a rescue mission for one of his fellow pilots.
