Smokey Stover was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross for his performance against enemy forces on the 13th and 14th of September in 1942. The medal was awarded with a temporary citation. This permanent citation was awarded on May 6, 1943, and later endorsed by L.T. Morse and Captain Jocko Clark.

Context

Smokey Stover was a naval aviator who was stationed aboard the USS Yorktown (CV-10) and was lost during the American raid on Truk in February of 1944.
