Description

Circular brass cup with detached brass lid. Front of cup is engraved with "USS YORKTOWN CVA-10 SUMMER CRUISE 1957" and a list of places the ship made port. "USS YORKTOWN CVA-10" is bordered by an engraved swirl design.

Use

Made as a memento for sailors serving aboard the USS Yorktown in the summer of 1957.

Context

The cruise cup belonged to Ronald Smith who served in the Navy from 1955 to 1959. He was an electrician's mate who specialized in flight catapult systems. Smith served aboard the USS Yorktown (CVA-10), the USS Lexington (CV-16), and the USS Hancock (CVA-19).
