"Albatross" an Aircraft at BNAS

Entry/Object ID

Description

An Armed Forces Day crowd of civilians prepare to board an aircraft called Amphibian -UF1 "Albatross". Grumman Aircraft Co. designed this aircraft to make short run landings and take-offs from runways or water surfaces. "JATO" bottles can be attached to the fuselage, giving the aircraft added thrust for take-off. This makes it ideally suited for search and rescue missions. The back of the photo has two stamps 'U.S. NAVAL AIR STATION BRUNSWICK, MAINE" and "OFFICIAL PHOTOGRAPH NOT TO BE USED FOR PUBLICATION BY ORDER OF THE CHIEF OF NAVAL OPERATIONS." Undated
