William M. Pennell was born in Brunswick, ME in October 1857, the son of Robert and Sarah Pennell. He was a businessman and a prominent Democratic politician. Upon expiration of his term as postmaster of Brunswick in 1902 he was elected sheriff of Cumberland County. In 1910 he unsuccessfully ran for Congress, later becoming a real estate dealer in Portland. His first wife, Leida, died in 1916. They had three children, Christine, Sarah and Robert. In 1923 he married his long-time secretary, Ida Phillips of Portland. He died in 1953 and is buried with his first wife in Brunswick's Pine Grove Cemetery. Not dated.
