An undated black and white photograph of a painting of the brigantine "Hattie S. Bishop", launched in Harpswell in 1864, according to a pamphlet of Harpswell ship-builders and ships by Miriam Stover Thomas. The "List of Merchant Vessels of the United States ... 1871" includes a brigantine named "Hattie S. Bishop", 311 tons, with its homeport in Harpswell, Maine (see http://books.google.com/books). Records of The New York Times note the arrival of a vessel of this name in New York on November 24, 1879 with a cargo of logwood after a 15-day journey from Cape Haytien (Haiti). Records of The New York Times also show that a vessel of this name was blown ashore in a storm in Pensacola, Florida on February 9, 1881 (the vessel was floated with the aid of a steam tug).
